Santana Band
Carlos Augusto Santana Alves (born July 20, 1947 in Jalisco, Mexico) is a Grammy Award-winning Mexican rock musician and guitarist. He became famous in the late 1960s and early 1970s with his band, Santana, which created a highly successful blend of rock, salsa, and jazz fusion. Since forming in 1973, the Bay Area quartet—former Santana members Neal Schon on guitar and Gregg Rolie on keyboards and vocals, ex-Steve Miller Band bassist Ross Valory and journeyman drummer Aynsley Dunbar—had earned critical kudos for its albums of instrument-oriented rock. But, as we all know, great reviews don’t necessarily sell albums. This is where Sheryl Crow, the rock band Disturbed, Michael McDonald, Aretha Franklin, and Jerry Lee Lewis performed. Everyone was very impressed with the sound quality of the D.A.S. system, including several acts that had never used D.A.S. equipment before. The Disturbed is a particularly loud band and they made it a special point of singling out “Soft As Granite” is a lively Latin-jazz release from Janine Santana that combines traditional and authentic Afro-Cuban rhythms with mainstream jazz and elements of funk to create a exceptional, vibrant sound. The musicianship is of the highest order, with great horn solos and bebop. http://www.radioindy.com/bands/5010/ A review of the Carlos Santana and Salvador Santana Band performance in Calgary Alberta. Remember HiJynx, the band that privately messaged Eugene Mirman via Myspace only to end up being blasted during his on stage reply? Well, now Mirman will have to watch out for invitations to see Stealing Jane, the band that sounds like “Maroon 5, Santana, [and] Sublime put together, with twice the energy of all three combined.” See photos of Carlos Santana and his band onstage at The Garden.
